Tish Murtha, a mother, fighter, and visionary photographer, used her lens to celebrate overlooked working-class lives and fight for social change in Thatchers' Britain. Her daughter uncovers her poignant story, unveiling the artist behind the camera.

Join us as we uncover Tish's hidden legacy, shedding light on her unyielding spirit and extraordinary work. This documentary is a tribute to courage, love, and the transformative power of art. Experience the journey of a remarkable artist whose message still resonates with audiences today.

Following its World Premiere at Sheffield DocFest 2023, Modern Films is proud to present TISH, a feature documentary from filmmaker Paul Sng (Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché), opening in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 17 November 2023. Produced by Jen Corcoran (“Nascondino” [Hide and Seek]) through Teesside-based Freya Films in association with Hopscotch Films and Sng’s Velvet Joy Productions, with cinematography by Hollie Galloway. The voice of Murtha is played by Maxine Peake (“Funny Cow”).

"Energetic in ways that resemble its extraordinary subject, humane and funny through its series of remarkable interviews and uncompromising in its political implications, Tish is an essential piece of filmmaking which deserves to be endlessly repeated on prime-time TV." Alex Niven, Tribune Magazine
